2025 update | The information on this page reflects the newest Disney resort hotel benefits and perks.

DISNEY RESORT HOTEL BENEFITS

Will you regret it if you don’t stay at a Disney resort? Let’s peek behind the magic and discover the specific benefits, conveniences, and new perks that are only available to the guests of the hotels that Disney owns and operates.

Explore the benefits & perks of Disney's hotels

Walt Disney World owns and operates 31 resort hotels with a wide range of prices, amenities, and services. (As we explain below,  some of these hotels are ‘sister properties’ that share a common lobby, front desk, etc.) Because there are a handful of hotels on Disney property that Disney doesn’t actually own / operate, Disney collectively refers to their own hotels as the Disney Resorts Collection. Colloquially, they’re more commonly known as, simply, the Disney resort hotels.

TOP TIP: stay ‘in the bubble.’ As you may have heard, Walt Disney World guests have their own lingo. After a Disney trip, those who rave most passionately share something in common: they slept in a Disney-owned hotel located within the geographical boundary of Walt Disney World’s 43 square miles of private land (i.e., ‘on property.’) By doing so, you can eliminate many of the real-world hassles that break the spell of a magical vacation. Disney’s looking after you every step of the way.

DISNEY RESORT HOTEL BENEFITS | What perks are exclusive to Disney’s hotel guests?

In 2025 & 2026, when you stay in a Disney resort hotel, here’s the full list of what you receive:

● Extended Theme Park Hours — All Disney Resort guests enjoy Early Park Entry, the exclusive benefit of entering each theme park at least 30 minutes before other guests. Guests who stay in Deluxe-level hotels also enjoy Extended Evening Theme Park Hours, with 2 hours of extra time (on select nights) at Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, or Hollywood Studios after the parks close to regular guests.  | Why this matters: Those extra minutes mean you can ride some of the park’s most popular attractions without a long wait.

● Early Dining & Experiences Booking Window — Anyone can book a Walt Disney World restaurant (or experience) reservation 60 days in advance. However, those with confirmed Disney resort stays can also book all the reservations for their entire vacation — up to ten days after they arrive. | Why this matters: the most sought-after reservations – like character meals, Savi’s Workshop Custom Lightsabers, and many of the best restaurants like ‘Ohana, Space 220, Story Book Dining with Snow White & Cinderella’s Royal Table will fully book up with Disney resort guests before the general public even has the chance to reserve them.

● Complimentary Disney water park visit on your check-in day — NEW for 2025, all overnight guests of the Disney resort hotels receive a complimentary ticket to visit a Disney water park on their arrival day. | Why this matters: upon arrival, it’s great to experience the uniqueness of Disney — without risking the use of theme park ticket, especially if you’re flying in and worries about a flight delay. Soak up some Florida sun and splashy fun, then dine at Disney Springs for a perfect first impression.

Learn more about Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon and Disney’s Blizzard Beach ▸

Earlier Access for Lightning Lane Reservations — Resort guests who want to skip the waits on Disney’s most popular attractions can reserve their Lightning Lane attractions 7 days in advance.  All other guests may only begin booking 3 days in advance. Learn more about Lightning Lane Multi-Pass ▸ | Why this matters: on many days, especially during peak season, all the windows for attractions like Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, TRON Lightcycle / Run and Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind will fully book up with Disney resort guests before the general public has the chance to reserve them.

Complimentary Resort Transportation — Unlimited use of buses, monorails, gondolas, ferries, and shuttle boats throughout the Walt Disney World Resort. As of 2022, parking is free for Disney resort hotel guests. | Why this matters: those who stay off-property will need to pay for theme park parking each day ($25) and contend with potential traffic on the way. If you stay to watch the fireworks, a 15-minute drive can stretch well beyond an hour. Maybe longer.

● MagicBand access — A MagicBand is wearable tech bracelet that’s encoded with all your tickets and reservations; simply scan it throughout your vacation to enter any attraction, theme park, or dining reservation. It opens your guest room door, too. For purchases throughout your stay, resort guests may link a credit card and scan your MagicBand at any store, restaurant, or kiosk around Walt Disney World. The purchase is simply added to your guestroom folio. Resort guests receive a discount on the purchase of any new MagicBand for all the guests in their party. | Why this matters: although non-resort guests may also link a MagicBand for tickets & reservations, they can’t use it for payments. And, they’ll need to pay full price to buy a new one. See our tips for MagicBand and MagicBand+ ▸

Walt Disney Travel Package — Those who stay in Disney resort hotels can pay off their vacation cost over time, and enjoy especially generous modification and cancellation / refund terms. | Why this matters: those who stay off-property often must pay for their whole vacation right when they reserve, and many components — like Disney’s theme park tickets — are non-refundable. We explain the payment options and policies here ▸

DISNEY’S RESORT CATEGORIES, AMENITIES & ACCOMMODATION TYPES

At Walt Disney World, what do its hotel categories — Value, Moderate, or Deluxe — actually signify? Which resorts offer Club Level accommodations? What about villas / condos with kitchens, dining rooms, and multi-bedroom suites? Which Disney resort hotel pools have waterslides? How many feature character dining?

Discover the differences between Value, Moderate, & Deluxe Disney hotels

DISNEY’S DELUXE, MODERATE & VALUE  RESORTS – WHAT DO THE CATEGORIES REALLY MEAN?

As you’ll see below, Walt Disney World divides each resort hotel into a category: Deluxe, Moderate or Value.

Unfortunately, there are common misconceptions about what these categories mean. Many online blogs & travel guides oversimplify things, claiming that Value resorts are the least expensive, the Moderate resorts are mid-priced, and the Deluxe resorts are most pricy.

In truth, the price of the individual rooms themselves can vary widely — even within the same resort. A large, better-appointed room in a Value resort often has a higher nightly rate than a standard room in a Deluxe resort.

So let’s provide a more accurate, in-depth explanation: Disney’s resort categories tell us more about the resort itself, than about the nightly rate of your specific guest room.

To explain the differences, we’ll breakdown the three different categories. Then, read on for a FAQ on the nuances & nature of Disney’s categories — as it relates to the price you’ll pay for your room.

Here’s what each category tells us about the resort hotels:

DELUXE RESORT HOTELS | get pricing ▸

  • CLOSEST TO THEME PARKS | At least one (and sometimes two) of the 4 theme parks will be located very nearby.
  • MOST CONVENIENT TRANSPORTATION | Resort buses come more frequently. Most Deluxe resorts offer multiple forms of transportation, like the monorailDisney Skyliner gondolas, ferry boats / water launches, or walking paths to the parks. (All transportation is complimentary)
  • BEST POOLS | They’ve all got more than one type of pool. At least one feature pool that’s designed for families & kids, with water slides, splash pads, and activity zones. Additionally, you’ll enjoy up to 4 more quiet pools — located around the resort — meant for restful relaxation. (Value resorts don’t have water slides or quiet pools.)
  • MOST DINING OPTIONS | Value resorts only offer quick service restaurants. The Deluxe resorts, however, feature quick service restaurants which are open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, casual poolside cafes, coffee shops & bakeries with grab-and-go items, and fine dining Signature restaurants. In addition to quick service or grab & go, you can also enjoy delicious breakfasts at table service restaurants, many of which also offer character dining. Some offer culinary experiences like wine tastings or cocktail mixology workshops!
  • LARGER ROOMS & OCCUPANCIES | Most standard rooms feature 2 Queen beds + single sofa bed (or pull-down bed) and can accommodate up to 5 guests. Some rooms with a King bed can only accommodate a maximum of 2 guests.
  • ROOM TYPES INCLUDE VILLAS  | Deluxe resorts offer standard hotel rooms, but also include villas (i.e., condos) which are multi-room units with living rooms, dining areas, full kitchens, and a patio or balcony. Disney’s villas come in 4 subcategories, as we explain below. Villas can accommodate 4, 8, or 12 guests.
  • CLUB LEVEL ROOMS | Additionally, several Deluxe resorts offer Club Level rooms, which provide access to an exclusive Club Level lounge from 7 AM to 10 PM each day. Disney’s clubs offer complimentary light meals, snacks, beer, wine, and cordials for the Club Level guests, along with a devoted concierge who can assist with dining reservations, transportation, tickets, and the use of the Disney World app.
  • GYMS & OUTDOOR RECREATION | All Deluxe resorts feature their own gyms with workout facilities. Most resorts also offer outdoor recreation like tennis courts, jogging paths, a marina with fishing expeditions, fireworks cruises, or early morning yoga workshops.
  • VALET PARKING & BELL STAFF | Guest may enjoy valet parking service (for a fee), or rely on helpful bell services staff to assist with portering bags to and from your room.
  • CONCIERGE STAFF | Deluxe resorts have more Front Desk area agents to assist with your vacation.
  • NICER AMENITIES | Bed linens, towels, pillows, room furnishings and finishes are Disney’s highest quality within the Deluxe resorts. Many offer business centers, lounge bars with live entertainment, and spas or hair salons. Additionally, most Deluxe resorts feature guest room entryways in internal indoor hallways, which are quieter and more peaceful than the Moderate & Value resorts’ exterior-facing ‘motel style’ entryways. Bell staff will secure your bags before check-in and after check-out, and will porter bags to your room upon request.

MODERATE RESORT HOTELS | get pricing ▸

  • SHORTER COMMUTE TO THEME PARKS | Moderate resorts are centrally located, but none of the theme parks are within walking distance.
  • MORE TRANSPORTATION OPTIONS | Most — but not all — Moderate resorts offer more than one types of transportation. In addition to Resort buses, some offer Disney Skyliner gondola access or water launches. (All transportation is complimentary)
  • ENHANCED POOLS | They’ve all got more than one type of pool. At least one feature pool that’s designed for families & kids, with a water slide and a dump-bucket / splash pad. Additionally, you can enjoy additional smaller, quieter pools located around the resort. One resort (Coronado Springs) has a lap pool for early morning exercise.
  • CASUAL & QUICK SERVICE DINING OPTIONS | Moderate resorts offer affordable quick service restaurants for breakfast, lunch and dinner, but also offer casual dining table service restaurants for dinner service. Menus are moderately priced throughout the resort. One resort (Coronado Springs) also offers a fine dining Signature restaurant. Comfortable lounge bars offer additional relaxation areas, which may also include live entertainment (Port Orleans – French Quarter). There is no character dining at Moderate resorts, and breakfast is only served in quick service restaurants.
  • ROOM TYPES MAY INCLUDE SUITES & CLUB LEVEL | One Moderate resort — Coronado Springs — offers larger suites and Club Level rooms. There are no villas / condos or units will full kitchens in the Moderate resort hotels. Most standard rooms can accommodate a maximum of 4 guests, but some rooms can accommodate a 5th guest (sleeping in a child-sized murphy bed). Some suites at Coronado Springs can accommodate up to 6 guests.
  • OPTIONAL RECREATION | One Moderate resort — Coronado Springs — has an on-site gym. Fort Wilderness Campground offers extensive outdoor recreation, including archery, canoeing, trail exploration, volleyball, and fishing.
  • STANDARD AMENITIES | Room furnishings, flooring, bedding and storage has been renovated in recent years, but linens and finishes are not as upscale as the Deluxe resorts. Still, rooms are well-appointed and beds are very comfortable. Most rooms at Moderate resorts have outdoor-facing guest room doors, ‘motel style,’ which can be a bit noisy during pre-park hours. (Coronado Springs does offer internal doorways in its Destino Tower.) There is no valet parking. Bell staff will secure your bags before check-in and after check-out, but will not porter bags to your room.

VALUE RESORT HOTELS | get pricing ▸

  • LONGER COMMUTE TO THEME PARKS | The Value resorts are located furthest from the theme parks, and Resort buses arrive less often. Additionally, the Value resorts have just one bus depot for the whole resort hotel, which may be a 15-minute walk from your room.
  • LIMITED TRANSPORTATION OPTIONS | Most Value resorts only offer Resort bus transportation. Two Value resorts offer Skyline Gondola access — Art of Animation and Pop Century.
  • KID-FOCUSED POOLS | Although Value resorts have more than one pool, they’re all considered feature pools with a focus on play areas for kids. There are no water slides or dump buckets. There are no quiet pools for adults to relax.
  • LIMITED DINING | Value resorts all feature just one large quick service food court, which may be located as far as 15-minute walk from your room. There are no table service restaurants and no character dining. There are no lounges and bars, and no public lobby spaces for relaxation. There are, however, simple poolside bars which are open during evening hours.
  • STANDARD ROOMS OR FAMILY SUITES | The Value resorts have two room types. A standard room will have 2 queen beds or 1 King bed, with a maximum of 4 guests. Family Suites feature a queen bed, a queen pull-down murphy bed, a queen pullout sofa, two bathrooms, and a kitchenette. Family suites can accommodate a maximum of 6 guests.
  • LIMITED RECREATION | Value resorts do not have on-site gyms or outdoor sport recreation. Daily activities for kids, however, may include arts & crafts, pool games, and obstacle courses.
  • LIMITED AMENITIES | Room furnishings, flooring, bedding and storage have been renovated in recent years, but linens and finishes are not as upscale as the Deluxe resorts. Still, rooms are well-appointed and beds are very comfortable. All rooms at Value resorts have outdoor-facing guest room doors, ‘motel style,’ which can be a bit noisy during pre-park hours. There is no valet parking. Bell staff will secure your bags before check-in and after check-out, but will not porter bags to your room.

As soon as you arrive at Walt Disney World, you’ll learn that Disney organizes all its resort hotels by geographic location. Part of this is for practical purposes; those who are driving rely Disney’s private highways to reach the different resort areas.

But it’s helpful now, too. It helps explain which theme parks / entertainment areas will be nearest to your hotel.

SISTER / SIDE-BY-SIDE RESORT HOTELS | Do they share facilities, pools, restaurants etc?

As you’ll see above, Disney has many hotels that are located side-by-side. Technically, each one of these hotels is its own entity (and incorporated as such). That’s why they have distinct names.

But many of Disney’s resorts share the same Front Desk lobby, restaurants, recreation etc., To help guide you to hotels that share those same Front Desks, we list them above on the same line. Disney’s BoardWalk Inn and the BoardWalk Villas, for example. Disney’s Yacht Club & Beach Club have different front desks (but do share a giant pool & recreation area).

Other sister properties do not share the same Front Desks, pools, or facilities, and although the guest rooms might border one another, their Front Desks are actually very far from each other. That’s the case at Port Orleans – Riverside and Port Orleans – French Quarter, for example. Also true of the three All-Star resorts.

Still, if you’ve got members of your broader travel party that might not stay in your same hotel but would like to stay nearby, here’s a helpful rundown of which hotels are near one another:

HOTELS WITHIN IN A VERY SHORT WALK FROM EACH OTHER

  • All-Star Movies, Music, & Sports |  sidewalks / walking paths
  • Animal Kingdom Lodge – Jambo House & Kidani Village | sidewalk / walking path
  • Art of Animation & Pop Century | Walk around Hourglass Lake
  • Yacht & Beach Club & BoardWalk | Walk around Echo Lake
  • Caribbean Beach & Riviera Resort | Walk around Barefoot Bay
  • Port Orleans – Riverside & Port Orleans – French Quarter | Walk along the Sassagoula River
  • Polynesian Village & Grand Floridian | Walk around Seven Seas Lagoon / walking path (may be restricted for construction)
  • Old Key West & Saratoga Springs | Walk through Lake Buena Vista Golf Course
  • Saratoga Springs & Disney Springs | Walk around Lake Buena Vista

HOTELS ALONG THE DISNEY SKYLINER GONDOLA

  • BoardWalk, Yacht & Beach Club, Caribbean Beach, Art of Animation, Pop Century, Caribbean Beach Resort, Riviera Resort

HOTELS ALONG THE MAGIC KINGDOM MONORAIL LOOP

  • Contemporary, Polynesian Village, Grand Floridian | see our note below!

Please note: although the front entrance of EPCOT is located on the monorail that connects to the Magic Kingdom monorail loop, the EPCOT-area resorts are located near the rear International Gateway entrance within EPCOT”s World Showcase. If you arrive at EPCOT by monorail, you cannot reach the EPCOT area resort hotels without walking through the theme park (with valid theme park admission) — or catching one of the Disney resort buses at the EPCOT main entrance plaza.

NON-DISNEY OWNED HOTELS THAT ARE WITHIN DISNEY PROPERTY

Surprise: not all hotels on Disney property are Disney-owned! Here are the handful of hotels located inside the Disney property lines that Disney does not own & operate:

  • Four Seasons Resort Orlando at Walt Disney World Resort
  • Shades of Green Resort
  • Walt Disney World Swan Hotel
  • Walt Disney World Dolphin Hotel
  • Walt Disney World Swan Reserve

If it seems confusing, here’s a trick: all Disney-owned hotels contain the word Disney’s (with the possessive ‘s). Additionally, the Disney Springs hotels along Hotel Plaza Boulevard, the Bonnet Creek-area hotels, and the Flamingo Crossings hotels are all located just outside the boundaries of Disney property, and are not owned / operated by Disney. See the Good Neighbor / Off-Property section below.

DISNEY SPRINGS RESORT HOTELS

If you want a convenient location and don’t need full Disney theming, is a Disney Springs area hotel the right fit for you? What perks & benefits do these guests receive that aren’t available in the standard Good Neighbor / off-property hotels? What are the downsides?

Explore the benefits, pros & cons of the Disney Springs area hotels

Guests who are looking to economize often enjoy the resort hotels located within the Disney Springs shopping / dining / entertainment district. These hotels are located side-by-side along Hotel Plaza Boulevard, just outside Disney’s property lines, and they are not owned and managed by The Walt Disney Company. Rather, they’re owned and managed by nationally-recognized hotel chains.

(As a quick reminder, Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa is within walking distance of Disney Springs. Learn more above.)

Here are the Disney Springs Area Resort Hotels:

  • Doubletree Suites by Hilton Orlando
  • Drury Plaza Hotel Orlando – Disney Springs Area
  • Hilton Orlando Buena Vista Palace
  • Hilton Orlando Lake Buena Vista
  • Holiday Inn Orlando
  • Renaissance Orlando Resort and Spa
  • Wyndham Garden Lake Buena Vista
  • Wyndham Lake Buena Vista

Yes, there are three Hilton-brand hotels and two Wyndham-brand hotels within Disney Springs. And each of these hotels is unique and distinct from the others.

BENEFITS OF THE DISNEY SPRINGS HOTELS | In a nutshell, here are the upsides:

  • Value. The nightly rates at these hotels are often less expensive than similarly-appointed rooms within Disney’s resort hotels.
  • Location. The hotels are a short drive from the Disney Parks, and just moments from the Disney Springs shops, restaurants, and entertainment venues. They’re on a considerably easier route to get to / from Universal Orlando Resort. The Wyndham and the two Hilton hotels are the closest physical walk to the Disney Springs pedestrian entrance — about a 5 minute walk.
  • Free transportation to all four parks. The buses which serve Disney Springs are far more reliable and frequent than any other Good Neighbor Hotel, and they drop off at all four Disney theme parks (unlike many off-property hotels, which only drop off at one or two parks, and are scheduled far less frequently). The buses are scheduled to depart every 30 minutes during the morning and evening hours, and then a few additional times throughout the day.
  • Early Park Entry. You’ll have exclusive access to the parks along with Disney resort hotel guests. 30 minutes early, every day. That said, it can be difficult to make it to the parks for early park admission if you’re relying on their buses. You’ll have essentially one bus to catch.
  • Some hotels are newly renovated. The Drury Plaza Hotel is essentially a brand new hotel that just opened a short time ago (after a complete refurb / rebuild, transforming from the former Best Western). The Renaissance Orlando has undergone major renovations too — formerly it was the B Resort & Spa.
  • We can book them as part of a Walt Disney Travel Package. The most flexible type of Walt Disney World reservation is a bundle that includes your hotel stay plus theme park tickets, and all the Disney Springs-area hotels qualify. Learn all about packages ▸
  • We can book them via Hilton Rewards / Marriott BonVoy / Wyndham / Drury Plaza rewards programs. If you’d rather pay for your hotel directly — and then purchase your tickets separately — we can set up an a la carte booking and reserve your hotel under your membership rewards program. Wishful Thinking is an authorized travel planning agency that proudly books via Hilton’s Travel Agents program, the Marriott Travel Agents program, etc. Get a price quote for your hotel ▸
  • On-site rental car facilities. Budget, Avis and National offer rental car pickup and drop off within the hotel lobbies of some Disney springs hotels. (Alamo and National offer rental cars at Disney’s Car Care Center near Magic Kingdom.) Learn more ▸

DOWNSIDES OF THE DISNEY SPRINGS HOTELS | Here are the less-than-optimal realities to keep in mind:

  • No Disney Cast Members to assist with your vacation. At the Disney-owned hotels, you simply need to visit your hotel Front Desk to get answers to questions, help re-arranging dining reservations, assistance with recreation or transportation concerns, and explanations on how things really work. That’s not how things work in the Disney Springs hotels. Their front desk staff typically have general familiarity with the Disney parks, but they often get the details wrong. They’re not Disney employees and aren’t trained (or expected) to assist with theme park particulars. For this reason, we do not recommend a Disney Springs area hotel stay for those who are visiting Disney for the very first time.
  • Lightning Lane reservations may only be booked 3 days in advance. You won’t benefit from the 7-day window that Disney resort guests receive.
  • No Disney theming. The décor in these hotels is — for lack of a better word — generic. The pool areas are lovely and relaxing, and many of the rooms are beautifully appointed. But while you’re inside the hotel itself, you wouldn’t really know you’re at Disney. That said, some of the hotels have well-stocked gift shops that sell Disney merchandise.
  • No resort charges on a MagicBand. You can purchase one to link your tickets and reservations, but you cannot link a credit card for contactless payment purchases throughout the resort, and you can’t use MagicBand to open your guest room door.
  • The buses depart less often than the Disney resort buses. The Walt Disney World buses begin running earlier and run far more often than the Disney springs buses do. Additionally, Disney guarantees that no matter when you leave the park — even if you’re the very last guest to leave — a Disney bus will bring you directly to your resort hotel. For the Disney Springs buses, if you miss the last bus home, you’ll need to pay for your own taxi or ride share.
  • The bus drop off / pickup locations are less convenient.  In the theme park parking lots, the Disney Springs lanes are the furthest walk from the park entrances (and at Magic Kingdom, they’re exceptionally far — a monorail or ferry ride away at the Ticket & Transportation center, instead of the lanes that Disney resort buses use right in front of the Magic Kingdom entrance).

When all is said and done, for many travelers, the excellent value of the Disney Springs Resort Hotels makes it all worthwhile. Wondering which one is the right fit for you?

OFF-PROPERTY / GOOD NEIGHBOR HOTELS

Staying outside of Walt Disney World can add traffic hassles and big transportation costs. Disney’s Good Neighbor Hotels are hand-picked by the Mouse for quality and reliability. But some are much better than others. If you’re hoping to economize by staying off-property, let’s go over the important pros & cons that you’ll want to keep in mind.

Discover our list of the best Good Neighbor hotels

WHAT IS A DISNEY GOOD NEIGHBOR HOTEL?

In Orlando, there are more than 45 different hotels that Disney has named as its Good Neighbor Hotels.

Why does this list exist, you might ask? Because Kissimmee, Florida — the community just outside Walt Disney World — has a lot of exceptionally sketchy hotels. Not exactly comfy. Not exactly clean.

In truth, there are not enough hotel rooms in the Disney-owned hotels for ALL the guests who wants to visit Walt Disney World, so Disney wants to inform travelers which specific hotels meet Disney’s high standards for hospitality, cleanliness, and service.

When you’re traveling to Florida (or the USA) for the very first time and aren’t familiar with dozens of hotel names, this list sure comes in handy, especially in an era where hotel booking websites list the least expensive hotels first. That’s why the Good Neighbor distinction exists.

The actual list can change from year to year (because Disney requires hotels to renew their partnerships).

But here are the pros & cons that you’ll want to keep in mind.

GOOD NEIGHBOR HOTELS: PROS, PERKS & BENEFITS

● We can bundle them within a Walt Disney Travel Package. | These are the most flexible (and most easily refundable) way to book a Walt Disney World vacation. Learn all about packages ▸

● The location can be ideal if you plan to split your time between Disney and other Orlando-area attractions. | If looks like you might spend more time at other Orlando-area attractions (like Universal Orlando Resort or Sea World), it can be a bit more practical to stay off-property.

● The nightly rate is sometimes more affordable than Disney-owned hotels. | Sometimes. In truth, the nightly rate of the 4 and 5-star hotels off property is typically lower than the similarly-appointed Disney Deluxe hotels. If you’re looking at 2 and 3 star hotels, however, Disney’s Value hotels often offer equal or lower price points — especially during low season.

● Multi-room suites and condos can offer extra space. | The Orlando area has many timeshare and condominium resorts that offer full kitchens and multiple bedrooms.

● Some hotels offer complimentary breakfast. | This is less common nowadays than it used to be, but some hotels offer basic American breakfasts as a standard amenity of their stay. Keep your expectations simple.

GOOD NEIGHBOR HOTELS: CONS, CAUTIONS & RISKS

● You don’t gain the benefits of a Disney resort hotel stay. | Many first-time Walt Disney World guests don’t realize how valuable the Disney resort perks actually are.  Then when they realize that many of the best experiences are fully booked up by Disney resort guests before they become available to the general public, they regret their decision to stay off-property. Also, off-property guests cannot purchase a Disney dining plan.

● You don’t necessarily save money. | This is important, so let’s break it down:

  • Full price tickets & meals | When you’re staying off-property, you typically have to pay full price for tickets & food. Many Disney resort guests gain cheaper theme park tickets — or a free Dining plan — by booking a promotional package rate.
  • Hotel resort fees & credit card charges | Most non-Disney hotels charge a nightly resort fee that’s not included in your prepaid cost — sometimes adding as much as $40 USD per night. Nearly all American hotels also ask for a credit card pre-authorization for incidental charges / security hold — even if you have no intention of dining or shopping at the hotel.  Depending on the length of your stay, that charge can be as high as $500 USD or more. Although these pre-authorizations are returned to your card, it can take up to 10 days to see those funds freed up. Disney resort hotels have no resort fees, and any incidental pre-authorizations are optional (if you want the option to bill things to your guest room folio).
  • Added transportation costs | Once you add in the cost of a rental car (or daily ride shares), gasoline, plus the cost of day parking in the Disney theme parks ($30+ tax per day), those added transportation costs typically offset any potential savings. Disney resort guests enjoy complimentary transportation (and free parking) throughout their stay.

● The theme park shuttle schedules are often impractical, inconvenient — and infuriating. |  Some guests hope to avoid renting a car / driving — seeing that their off-property hotel offers a theme park shuttle.  We could (and probably should) write an entire article about this, but MOST of the off-property hotels’ shuttles are so impractical & inconvenient that no one wants to use them. Especially post-pandemic. Therefore, many hotels have relegated their shuttle service to a third party that picks up guests at upwards of a dozen hotels — one after another — leading to a travel time beyond 90 minutes.  They typically offer merely one or two pickups per day, and many only drop off guests at the Magic Kingdom, making it impossible to enter all four Disney parks at opening or stay until closing time. We have visited many of these hotels in recent years, and the first-hand accounts of infuriated guests almost always involve the disaster of theme park shuttles. Don’t believe us? Call up their front desk and ask them to email you the actual theme park shuttle pickup schedule. Most hotels won’t do that for you –and now you know why.

● Traffic to and from the Walt Disney World parks adds a lot of travel time. | Let’s say that you plan to drive instead. Great! Prepare to sit in bumper-to-bumper traffic if you’re planning to be in the parks when they open or stay until closing time. In traffic, a 45-60 commute is not unusual — and then you have to pay to park and get from the parking lot to the turnstiles, which can easily add another hour at the Magic Kingdom. You’re looking at two hours — when a stay on Disney property would set you back 20 minutes.

● The hotel staff are often uninformed about the theme park experience. | You can’t rely on them for up-to-date info or advice. A sad truth: most Orlando-area hotel staff are paid so poorly they can’t afford to enter the theme parks regularly.

● Booking via booking engines can lead to unexpected fees and poor customer service. | We’ve got horror stories from those who have landed in Orlando and discovered that the hotel had no record of their reservation. When you book your hotel through Wishful Thinking, you’re booking directly with Disney (and our hotel travel partners).

●  The hotels can be outdated / in need of renovations / not exactly ‘magical.’ | Many off-property hotels were first constructed in the 1970s and 1980s and haven’t gotten a lot of love since then.

●  If not booked within a Disney travel package, the hotel may require prepayment and offer no refund for last-minute cancellations. | This is one of best perks of a Disney travel package. If something comes up at the last-minute, Disney’s got your back. Learn more ▸

WHAT NON-DISNEY OWNED HOTELS ARE WITHIN DISNEY PROPERTY?

Believe it or not, not every Good Neighbor hotel is located off-property. Here are handful of hotels located inside the Disney property lines that Disney does not own & operate:

  • Four Seasons Resort Orlando at Walt Disney World Resort
  • Shades of Green Resort
  • Walt Disney World Swan Hotel
  • Walt Disney World Dolphin Hotel
  • Walt Disney World Swan Reserve

GUEST HOMES,  CONDOS & AIRBNB RENTALS IN ORLANDO

Does Walt Disney World offer private guest homes? When and how is the best way to reserve a Disney Deluxe Villa? What home rentals are closest to Walt Disney World? What are the risks or rewards of reserving via AirBNB or Vrbo?

Explore the benefits & risks of renting Disney-area homes, condos & villas

Private guest homes offer expanded space and comfort with the privacy of a home-away-from-home. Full kitchens, private swimming pools, recreation areas and charming neighborhoods welcome guests who want more room to relax. Sharing a guest home will usually cost less than booking multiple hotel rooms. But what are the tradeoffs?

Here are a few key things to keep in mind when considering a guest home rental:

  • You have lots of options. AirBNB isn’t all there is; Expedia, VRBO, and many independently owned agencies rent guest homes throughout Orlando.
  • Factor in the cost of transportation and parking. You’ll need to drive, rent a car, or depend on rideshares. You’ll also pay to park every time you visit a Theme Park ($25-30 USD per day).
  • Many ‘guest homes’ are condos within large resort areas. You might benefit by having all the amenities of a large resort area (like a feature pool, exercise gym, nearby golf course, outdoor recreation, etc).
If you’re considering a guest home, you’ll want to select the right neighborhood. We know the locals.

FLORIDA BEACHES NEAR ORLANDO

Travel all the way to Florida without seeing the ocean? Miles of gorgeous tropical beaches are only an hour away. What Florida beaches are within the closest drive of Walt Disney World?

Get the details for Florida beach resorts near Orlando

Many first-time Orlando guests mistakenly think that Orlando is along the coast. The ocean is an hour away. But if you’d like to combine an Orlando vacation with a trip to one of Florida’s beautiful beaches, which one should you pick? And how should you get there? It’s pretty easy to include a trip to the Florida coast, whether it’s just for a quick day trip out and back, or an extension to your Walt Disney World vacation. The most popular beaches within easy reach of Orlando are:

Cocoa Beach | Branded as the nearest beach to Orlando, it’s just about one hour east. In addition to the charming Cocoa Village and the world’s largest surf shop, this beach is also within an easy drive of the NASA’s Kennedy Space Center at Cape Canaveral.

Daytona Beach | This fun-loving resort beach town is about 90 minutes north and east of Orlando along the Atlantic coast. Famous for college spring breaks and a vibrant nightlife, you’ll also find full service resorts and spectacular beaches.

Clearwater Beach | About two hours southwest of Orlando, along the Gulf of Mexico, Clearwater is often named one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. The readers of TripAdvisor think so — they’ve been ranking it #1 annually.

What’s the best way to to get to the beach from Orlando & Walt Disney World? There are no public transportation options between Orlando and the coastal beaches. To visit, your best bet is rent a car and drive. You might even want to stay for a night or two.

DISNEY RESORT HOTELS: FAQ

The internet & social media channels are overflowing with outdated & inaccurate information about Disney’s resort hotels — let’s dive into some expert, up-to-date answers about how things work for Disney resort hotel stays in 2025 and beyond.

Get the answers to Disney's resort hotel questions

VISITORS | If you’re not an overnight guest at a Disney resort hotel, can you still visit the hotel to dine / shop / look around?

Yes — the Walt Disney World resort hotels are open to the public. Anyone can visit a Disney resort hotel to dine in its restaurants & lounges, shop in the gift shops, or visit friends / family who are staying there. Some resorts (like Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort Campground) offer outdoor recreation, activities and even a nightly campfire sing-a-long that anyone can enjoy.

That said, Disney does restrict who and when you can park at its resort hotel parking lots. Those who are visiting (and not overnight guests) typically have a maximum of 2 hours of free parking. Security gates prevent non-hotel guests from parking in the full day / overnight parking lots. At times, resort security may restrict visitor parking lot entry to those who have a confirmed dining or recreation reservation.

The parking lot restrictions are most strictly-enforced at Disney’s Contemporary Resort, Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, and Disney’s Yacht & Beach Club resorts (because of their pedestrian walkway proximity to the theme parks).

Aside from standard security measures, there are no restrictions for those who travel to Disney resort hotels via Disney’s complimentary public transportation (resort buses, monorail, ferries, etc.)

Within Disney’s resort hotels, several areas are not open to the public and may only be accessed by the hotel’s overnight guests, including:

  • Pools, splash pads, and waterslides, along with poolside deck area
  • Gyms and workout facilities
  • Club Level floors and lounges

RESORT HOTEL DINING TIP: Although most resort table service dining reservations can be made online in advance, some resort hotel restaurants — like Three Bridges Bar & Grill, Geyser Point, and Wailulu Bar & Grill — often forego online reservations and simply rely on a walk-up seating list from those who are geo-located within the resort hotel area. You’ll need to open the Disney World app and enable location settings to add your party.

OVERNIGHT GUESTS | If I’m a Disney resort guest, may I invite a friend / family member to stay for the night?

Provided that you’re within your maximum occupancy limits — which are set by state and local fire codes — you may visit your hotel’s Front Desk to add an overnight guest to your room reservation. Those who are added via this method do not gain Disney resort hotel benefits like early theme park entry, extended evening hours, or advance Lightning Lane reservations.

PREFERRED ROOMS | What does that actually mean?

Within some Disney resort hotels, the term Preferred Room simply refers to its geographical location within the resort hotel complex. The room itself is the same on the inside — same furnishings, bedding, etc.

Why does this matter? Because most Disney resort hotels offer a spectacular stretch of expansive landscaping, gardens, ponds, pools, and walkways – as big as 4 or 5 times the size of an average golf course. (Disney’s massive Port Orleans Resort spans more than 500 acres, with 27 different buildings!)

The rooms in the Preferred category are nearest to the resort’s Front Desk, main parking lot, dining, luggage bell services, gift shop,  etc. – typically just a 2 or 3 minute walk. Makes it a whole lot easier to pop over & pick up a snack for some hungry kiddos. The standard rooms? As far as a 15 minutes on foot. At the nicer resorts, Disney offers complimentary transportation to help guests reach their rooms. And bell hops to help with your bags.

RESORT AREAS / NEIGHBORHOODS | How are Disney’s resorts laid out? Which are areas the best?

Walt Disney World resorts have large areas that are themed into different ‘neighborhoods.’ For example, Disney’s Pop Century Resort divides the hotel buildings into different decades, Disney’s All-Star Music Resort is divide into musical genres, and Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort divides its areas into island nations. Additionally, some resorts’ buildings have specific names (the Grand Floridian and Polynesian Village’s buildings are named for different islands).

Within each resort, there’s no one area that’s broadly considered the best —  guests appreciate different things. Some folks want to be located near a particular transportation station (like Disney’s Skyliner gondola entrance or a boat dock), while others want to be near a specific pool (like the lap pool at Disney’s Coronado Springs resort). Others want to be near a walkway to visit a neighboring resort.

When you plan your trip with Wishful Thinking, we can recommend areas based on your specific travel party’s top priorities.

RESORT BUSES | Which area do Disney resort buses visit first at my Disney resort hotel?

Many online blogs, social media videos, and travel forums have incorrect / outdated information on this question.

Disney’s resort buses do not follow the exact same path every day, or every hour of the day. They vary their routes based on the time of day (early morning & late night ‘rush hour’ )  and even the resort hotel’s current occupancy rate.

At some less busy times of day (or times of year), Disney’s buses may visit more than one resort hotel. It’s common for the buses that serve Disney’s Grand Floridian resort to also stop at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort. Many of the buses that visit Disney’s Yacht & Beach Club will also pick up guests from Disney’s BoardWalk Inn nearby before heading to the theme parks.

Therefore, we say that you should resist requesting specific areas of a Disney resort hotel on the assumption that the bus will come pick you up first (or last).  Things often don’t work that way.

ROOM REQUESTS / UPGRADES | What can we request?

This is another area with a lot of inaccurate information online. Walt Disney World re-named and reworked many of their room categories in 2024. So let’s clarify everything based on current standards and policies.

You may request to be near another travel party. |  For guests who are traveling with others, Disney links reservations internally (with what’s called a “travel with number,”) and when its time to assign guests to specific rooms, those who are traveling with other parties are assigned to their rooms before those who are not. For this reason, Disney never guarantees that travel parties will be near one another, but they do their best.

You may request specific buildings, areas, or room numbers. |  You may request to be located in a specific area / neighborhood,  request specific buildings, or even request specific room numbers. However, it’s very important to note that most Walt Disney World resort hotel reservations are now confirmed specifically with your area / view category as part of your booking. If you haven’t booked that category, you likely won’t be placed in that area — unless you modify the booking and pay for the price difference. That’s especially true for the Preferred room category and any rooms with theme park, water, or fireworks views.

How do we add a room request to our reservation? | When you book your Walt Disney World vacation with Wishful Thinking, we handle all your room requests for you. Simply send us a message.

ROOM SIZES | Which Disney hotel rooms are the most (or least) spacious?

Room sizes vary greatly within the Disney Resorts Collection. Here are some roundabout averages:

  • Suites and multi-bedroom villas, cabins, and bungalows are the largest. Read on below — because the square feet of these accommodations vary widely.
  • Deluxe resorts generally features the largest standard rooms. Most guest rooms at Wilderness Lodge and Animal Kingdom Lodge are approximately 344 square feet (32 m²)  — while standard rooms at the Grand Floridian Resort & Spa and Polynesian Village have a bit more breathing room, ranging from about 415 to 440 square feet (38 m² – 41 m²).
  • Moderate resorts’ standard rooms are in the middle. Most rooms at Caribbean Beach, Coronado Springs, and Port Orleans are approximately 314 square feet (29 m²).
  • Naturally, Value resorts’ standard rooms are the tiniest. The All-Star Resorts, Pop Century and Art of Animation standard rooms are approximately 260 square feet (21 m²).

BEDDING

How many beds are in standard rooms? What are the actual bed sizes?

Most Walt Disney World hotel rooms feature 2 Queen beds or 1 King bed, and your reservation will specify exactly what beds are in your room. Most Deluxe resort standard rooms — and those in the 5th Sleeper category — also feature a single bed that folds down from a sofa or a murphy bed. Here are the bed sizes:

  • Queen Bed | Width: 60 inches (152 cm), length: 80 inches (203 cm)

  • King Bed | Width: 76 inches (193 cm), length: 80 inches (203 cm)

  • Day bed / sofa bed | Width: 30 inches (76 cm), length: 72 inches (183 cm)

  • 5th sleeper | Width: 30 inches (76 cm), length: 63 inches (160 cm)

Do all Disney resort hotels have the same bedding, pillows, towels, etc? | All Disney guest rooms feature high-quality mattresses, crisp clean linens, plush towels, and fluffy pillows. Hypoallergenic bedding / pillows are available upon request (speak with the Housekeeping Cast Members upon arrival).

Although you’ll find the same high-quality mattresses in all of Disney’s hotels, the Deluxe hotels often feature specialty pillows and sheets with more luxurious thread-counts / quality.

INFANTS

Do babies count toward the guest count on room accommodations? | As you may know, children under 3 are free to enter any Disney’s theme park with their parent or legal guardian. For nearly all Disney accommodations, an infant under three — sleeping in a crib —  does not count toward the maximum guest occupancy.

How can I request a baby crib or pack & play for my guest room? | Simply call Disney’s housekeeping upon arrival to request a pack & play, crib, or bed rail for your child. You don’t need to contact Disney before your arrival day; Disney’s hotels don’t run out of these amenities.

CONNECTING ROOMS / MULTI-BEDROOM SUITES

Does Walt Disney World offer connecting rooms or multi-bedroom suites? What’s most economical for larger families & groups?

Many large groups want to stay near one another or book connecting accommodations that can fit everyone. Here are the best options, ranked from most to least-expensive:

  • Cabin, Bungalow, or Specialty Suite | This is the most luxurious, most expensive option. The Copper Creek cabins at Wilderness Lodge and the overwater bungalows at Polynesian Village Resort are some the largest, most spacious, and most beautifully appointed accommodations at Walt Disney World, offering sumptuous sleeping arrangements for up to 10 guests. Similarly, the King Kamehameha Suite at Polynesian Village Resort or the Victoria Suite at the Grand Floridian Resort & Spa can sleep up to 8 adults. Other specialty suites offer a variety of sleeping arrangements and maximum occupancy. Because there are a very small number of these room types available., it’s crucial to book as early as possible. Note: The Cinderella Castle Suite (inside Cinderella Castle) is not available for booking; it’s primarily used for charity events.
  • Multi-bedroom suite | This is typically the 2nd most luxurious / expensive option, because many of these suites are club level accommodations with the standard amenities of  the club lounge (i.e., complimentary light meals & snacks from 7 AM to 10 PM daily).  Only a few Disney resorts  — Contemporary Resort and Coronado Springs — offer multi-bedroom suites, which can accommodate up to 12 guests. These rooms do not offer full kitchens; they’ve simply got extra sleeping rooms plus a living room / parlor area. Again, because these suites are very limited, it’s wise to book them as early as possible.
  • Multi-bedroom Deluxe villa | This is typically the 3rd most luxurious / expensive option. In Disney’s Deluxe Villas, your group can spread out in 1-bedroom, 2-bedroom, or 3-bedroom villas with many extra amenities — read on below for details. The maximum occupancy for the Deluxe Villas is 5 guests for a 1-bedroom villa, 9 guests for a 2-bedroom villa, and 12 guests for a 3-bedroom Grand Villa. Depending on the size of your group, you may need to book more than one villa, or add additional non-villa guest rooms. There are no villas that connect to standard guest rooms, but Disney can place larger groups within the same floor / building.
  • Family Suite within a Value resort | The spacious, lower priced Family Suites feature a master bedroom with a King bed and full-size bath, and then a living room area that features an additional full-size bath, a kitchenette, a Queen-size murphy bed (which folds up to reveal a dining table) and an additional Queen-size sofa bed. They can sleep a maximum of 6 guests.  Family suites are only offered at Art of Animation resort and All-Star Music resort.
  • Connecting rooms | This is almost always the most economical option. All Disney resort hotels offer standard rooms that connect to another room with an internal door, offering accommodations for up to 8 guests (in value or moderate hotels) up to 10 guests (in the Deluxe resort hotels). It’s essential to know that for most bookings, Disney will not guarantee connecting rooms. As we shared above, Disney will internally note when guests on multiple room reservations are traveling together, and they do their best to accommodate all requests for connecting rooms. (Book with us to make sure your rooms & requests are properly documented.) Note: Disney will guarantee two connecting rooms in one scenario: when (a maximum of) two adults are traveling with multiple children, and connecting rooms would be required to keep the family together.

DISNEY DELUXE VILLAS | What are their features?

Choose from 1-, 2- and 3-Bedroom Villas — as well as Cabins and Bungalows — with the following features:

  • A full kitchen, so you can prepare meals and snacks from the comfort of your villa
  • Spacious living and dining areas where your family can share even more quality time together after you return from the parks
  • Separate bedrooms that offer space, privacy and tranquility – so it’s easy to rest, relax and recharge your spirit after each exhilarating vacation day
  • A washer and dryer – so you can pack lightly and avoid airline baggage fees

A little more than you need? Disney Deluxe Villa Resorts also feature Deluxe Studios, which feature a kitchenette and queen-size sleeper sofa—a great option for smaller travel parties and shorter stays.

POOLS AT WALT DISNEY WORLD RESORT HOTELS

Are Disney’s hotel pools heated? | All of the pools in the Disney resorts and water parks are heated to around 80° F (26° C), and they are open year-round. There are no indoor pools within Walt Disney World resort hotels or water parks. That said, during exceptionally cold days (around 50° F / 10° C) Disney’s water parks and resort pools will close. This is most likely to occur during the winter months of December and January.

Which Walt Disney World pools have waterslides? | Within Disney’s Moderate and Deluxe resort hotels, you’ll find waterslides in the main feature pool at the following resorts:

  • Disney’s Animal Kingdom Resort
  • Disney’s BoardWalk Inn
  • Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort
  • Disney’s Contemporary Resort
  • Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort
  • Disney’s Ft. Wilderness Resort & Campground
  • Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa
  • Disney’s Old Key West Resort
  • Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort
  • Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – French Quarter
  • Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – Riverside
  • Disney’s Riviera Resort
  • Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort
  • Disney’s Wilderness Lodge
  • Disney’s Yacht & Beach Club Resort

None of Walt Disney World’s Value resort hotel pools have waterslides. However, there are dozens of waterslides in the two Walt Disney World water parks, and all 2025 Disney resort hotel guests receive complimentary water park admission on their check-in day.

Can non-hotel guests visit for a swim? | No. Only registered overnight guests of Disney’s hotels may enjoy their pools. Disney Cast Members and locked gates prevent non-hotel guests from entering the pool decks.

Do they have lifeguards? | There are trained lifeguards on hand at all Disney resort hotel main feature pools and water parks. Some Moderate & Deluxe resorts also feature additional smaller leisure pools (aka ‘quiet pools) which do not have a lifeguard on duty.

When does Disney offer poolside recreation? | The schedule varies based on the time of year, but most days, activity counselors are on hand at the main feature pool during late afternoon hours, offering pool games and family-fun arts & crafts (like tie-dying t-shirts or ornament-making, for a small fee). Upon arrival at your Disney resort hotel, ask the Front Desk for your resort’s weekly activity & recreation schedule.

PRICE RANGE | What actually determines the pricing for Disney hotel rooms nightly rates?

Disney’s nightly hotel rate pricing is a complex recipe of overlapping factors:

  • Time of year | The singular biggest impact on pricing is when you travel. In short, prices are highest during comfortable weather months and when American kids are out of school.
  • Resort hotel location within Walt Disney World | The geographical location of each Disney’s resort hotel is the next most influential factor. The hotels that are near one of the theme parks are more expensive.
  • Specific room location within the resort | Guest rooms that are closest to the main building (where you’ll find the Front Desk, dining, luggage bell services, gift shop, concierge desk etc.) are a higher price than rooms that are further away. Walt Disney World calls this type of centrally- located room a Preferred Room.
  • Room type | When a guest room is larger, with more beds, or offers more amenities (like a kitchen, dining room, extra bathroom, or separate sleeping bedrooms behind a door), that raises the price.
  • View category | Views of the theme parks, the fireworks, or water features also add to the appeal (and the price).
  • Supply & demand | The classic rules of pricing certainly apply here; if Disney knows that a particular hotel is extra popular, guests will pay more — and they do.
  • Promotions | This is Disney’s word for ‘discounts.’ Walt Disney World offers different kinds of promotional pricing nearly all year ’round; the steepest discounts are offered during low season months.

REMEMBER: when you book with an Authorized Disney Vacation Planning Agency like Wishful Thinking, we can apply future promotions to existing bookings.

PRICE AVERAGES | What is the average price per night at the Walt Disney World resort hotels?

Disney very explicitly forbids Authorized Disney Vacation Planners from providing future price estimates — you should not trust any agency who breaks this guideline. We can only quote actual prices for what’s currently available.

With all of that in mind, as we’ve explained above, it’s essential to know that the nightly rates for the Disney resort hotel comprise a massive spectrum, offering everything from a very affordable fun-filled room for the whole family to an extravagant, luxurious home-away-from-home.

No matter what your budget is — considering that you can pay for any Disney Vacation Package in installments, spread out over time — we can find an option that makes your Disney dream a reality.
